Spatial personalities: a meta-analysis of consistent individual differences in spatial behavior

چکیده

Abstract Individual variation in behavior, particularly consistent among-individual differences (i.e., personality), has important ecological and evolutionary implications for population community dynamics, trait divergence, patterns of speciation. Nevertheless, individual spatial behaviors, such as home range movement characteristics, or habitat use yet to be incorporated into the concepts methodologies ecology biology. To evaluate evidence existence behavior – which we refer “spatial personality” performed a meta-analysis 200 repeatability estimates size, metrics, use. We found that personality is general phenomenon, with consistently high (r) across classes (r = 0.67–0.82), taxa 0.31–0.79), time between repeated measurements 0.54–0.74). These results suggest: 1) repeatable may either cause consequence environment experienced lead personalities limit ability individuals behaviorally adapt changing landscapes; 2) interactions phenotypes environmental conditions could result differential reproduction, survival, dispersal, suggesting facilitate population-level adaptation; 3) species' distributions dynamics better understood by shifting from mean field analytical approach towards methods account their associated fitness dynamics.

Individual differences in spatial mental imagery.

In this article, we report a new image-scanning paradigm that allowed us to measure objectively individual differences in spatial mental imagery--specifically, imagery for location. Participants were asked to determine whether an arrow was pointing at a dot using a visual mental image of an array of dots. The degree of precision required to discriminate "yes" from "no" trials was varied. In Exp...

Spatial frequency channels derived from individual differences

Contrast sensitivity functions differ from observer to observer. We propose that these differences arise because each observer has unique weights for the outputs of the neural channels that underlie the contrast sensitivity function. By applying principal components analysis to individual contrast sensitivity functions of 297 observers, estimates of the channel tuning curves were found. We find...

Spatial zoning and spatial analysis of urban poverty using spatial analysis (Case study: Mashhad city)

Spatial Zoning and Analysis of Urban Poverty via Spatial Analysis (Case Study: Mashhad City)   Abstract Examining the degree of poverty in every community is the first step taken towards planning for fighting against poverty and deprivation. With understanding the poverty change process over time, planners can make the necessary decisions. The present study aims to investigate the spatial z...

Individual differences in spatial text processing: High spatial ability can compensate for spatial working memory interference

a r t i c l e i n f o The present study investigates the relation between spatial ability and visuo-spatial and verbal working memory in spatial text processing. In two experiments, participants listened to a spatial text (Experiments 1 and 2) and a non-spatial text (Experiment 1), at the same time performing a spatial or a verbal concurrent task, or no secondary task. To understand how individ...
